book-The Birth of Tragedy

Learned a story:

The Phrygian King Midas was eager to learn from Silenus and caught the old man by lacing a fountain from which Silenus often drank. As Silenus fell asleep, the king's servants seized and took him to their master.

Silenus shared with the king a pessimistic philosophy: That the best thing for a man is not to be born, and if born, should die as soon as possible.

朝生暮死的可怜虫,无常与忧患的儿子,你为什么强逼我说出你最好是不要听的话呢?世间绝好的东西是你永远得不到的,——那就是不要降生,不要存在,成为乌有。但是,对于你次好的是——早死。

Silenus: God of drunkenness. It cracked me up. lovely. i will picture him having a red big ugly nose, a lots of curly hair, like all the Athenian Gods, a face always looks angry, but when he talk and drink with the crowd, he will be very loud and sparking and stir up the joy and laughter, or happiness and craziness.. i don't think Chinese have one...we should..
