I always suspect that I am actually a barbarian.

The author is Kenneth Clark. It was published in 1969.
What I like the most is his sophisticated complex ways of phrasing sentences. they made the paragraphs very elegant, and difficult to read through, just like the concept he was talking about in the book. and the concept is so Western to the core, that i 'm not even sure how much i am really for it. but it is a beautiful piece.
and when he mentioned a librarian of Charlemagne and how important he was to the Atlantic civilization. couldn't help my smiling. librarian, certainly.
